Showdown Part 5 (Gabrielle)

Ty couldn’t see where he was or where he was going. He felt the ragged edge of panic start clawing at the back of his head, but he stayed calm and tried to figure out what Anna had just done to him. Her voice came into the cockpit and felt oddly comforting as he fought with his equipment.
“Hey Ty,” Anna said. “Tell you what. If you can follow me I’ll show you the way out of this dust. It’ll be like ‘Follow the Leader’. How ’bout it? Are you game?”
With the last question Anna flew into view and somehow made her ship dance in front of him. She turned and headed out of the dust cloud. A flash of rage like he’d never felt before surged through Ty. His hands crushed the firing trigger. He had no radar, but he didn’t care. He’d hurt her if it was the last thing he did.
He sprayed so much energy at her that it would have been a shock if he’d missed. Most of his shots went wild, but just enough found her ship. He managed to blow out her main stabilizers and sent her ship into a spin.
“Yeah, Anna!” Ty screamed. “I’m game! How do like this game!”
***********
Just when Anna reached the table with her tray Ty jumped up and beckoned for her to follow him. That’s nice, she thought. I just sat down. But she caught the look on his face and guessed it must be serious. So she got up from the table and followed him out to the hall. Ty grabbed her arm and swung her so she was facing him.
“Who is that guy you were flirting with in line?” he demanded.
Anna scrunched up her face as if confused. “What guy? What are you talking about, Ty.”
He was not fooled.
“Anna, that is the fourth guy that I have bloodied my knuckles on.”
For a moment Anna felt guilt and sadness gnaw at her. But she pushed them far down and met his angry eyes. If he wanted this to end he would have to do it himself.
Ty searched her eyes, but couldn’t find what he was looking for. He sagged in defeat.
“Anna, I’m done,” he said. “I can’t do this anymore.”
He looked back into her eyes and his face went hard again. “We’re done.”
“Fine,” Anna said and held his gaze. Finally, Ty looked away, turned and walked away. And Anna was left alone in the hallway.
