A Thought on Recent Events (Raquel)
Posted by Raquel in Friends & Family, Rants & Rambles, RaquelThose more nationally minded among you will be disappointed by what I mean by recent events. I have no idea even which senators or quarterbacks I would reference to sound up to date, and certainly no idea of what they’ve been doing. When I say recent events, I mean the Ben-Ezra’s minor house fire, and fact that Theresa had a baby.
Um, did I mention that Theresa had a baby? Oh, good, Gabrielle took care of that. As you can tell, things have been a little busy around here. And, the notable thing is, things have been crazy busy for the both the Ben-Ezras and Lansberries. As in, within a week of each other both households got put in situations which would normally have the other household running down the street to help out.
There are certain basic assumptions in my life. When I flip a switch, the light turns on. When I turn on a faucet, water comes out. When we have a problem, the Ben-Ezras are there, and vice versa. Sure, sometimes the light bulb burns out or something, but as a rule these are things I just assume.
So you know what’s really, really weird for me? Someone else cleaned the Ben-Ezra’s house for them. They had a problem, and we couldn’t actually step in to help with it, so someone else from church did. I’m pretty sure you still don’t understand how mindboggling this is for me.
Normally when I say community, I’m thinking of us and the Ben-Ezras. The rest of the church talks about community, and they try and all, but they’re not right down the street. It’s just not the same. And honestly, without any of the rest of them being right down the street it never will be the same kind of community. But maybe I don’t give them enough of a chance to be there when I need help.
Because, after all, the Ben-Ezras are right down the street. Right?
