This is a poem I wrote several months ago that just came back to my attention, and I figured while I was thinking of it I might as well post it on the blog.
If I could touch your heart
make the pain all go away
give you the peace you seek
and answers for your life.
Well, I wouldn’t dare
change the plans God has for you
but I promise I’ll be here
when it hurts too much to take.
If I could wave my hand
and make the world come right
and all the broken parts
shine like new again.
I wouldn’t dare to take
charge in place of God
but I’ll ask that He would make
me strong to be His hands.
To hold on when it hurts
to tell you just how bright
His face still shines on you
when dark is all you see.
To tell the broken hearts
His love is bringing them
through all the fire and rain
to a world that’s new again.
To shout His praise out loud
when your throat’s too tight to speak
and whisper up a prayer
you’ll find His strength enough.
I wouldn’t dare to change
a day of your refining
as the fire burns your heart
and melts away your sin.
But I promise that His love
will never let you go
and if He gives me strength
I’ll never let you go.
